Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Do you need to make sense of aspect(s) of your life that hold you back? Do you have rather unhelpful behaviour and thoughts that cause you to move further from your desired goal or ambition? NLP is an excellent way of dissolving barriers and helps you to create greater accomplishment, success and wellbeing in every aspect of your life, leaving you with a desired, more positive state of mind which then leads to a brighter and better future.
What is NLP?
In brief, Neuro-Linguistic Programming was created by Dr. Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the early 1970’s and it began by them asking two questions:
”What makes excellent people excellent?...What is it that they do differently compared to others that sets them apart?”
They decided to turn their idea into a university research project by interviewing and observing people who were excelling in their chosen field.
The answer was quite intriguing as they soon found out that it was the underlying ‘patterns of behaviour’ that the subjects demonstrated that brought about excellence. Richard Bandler and John Grinder had realised that these ‘patterns of behaviour’ were present in the way that these people expressed themselves, the words they used, the manner in which they presented themselves, how their breathing was and even how they sat.
They also began to realise that the subjects hadn’t a clue as to what it was that they did that contributed to their brilliance – they just naturally did what they did.... Richard and John concluded that even though the patterns of behaviour were unconscious, it could be replicated and they began following the patterns of behaviour to achieve similar results......hence, Modelling was born, which is one of the fundamental teachings of NLP. Further techniques have grown from this and it is now one of the foremost popular ways to achieve excellence, inspiration and dramatic positive change for yourself and others.
"The greatest personal limitation is to be found not in the things you want to do and can't, but in the things you've never considered doing." Dr. Richard Bandler
Neuro-Linguistic Programming can be broken down in the following:
Neuro: Relates to the central nervous system which deals with information coming to us via the five senses.
Linguistic: Relates to the language (and nonverbal communication) through which information received via the neural representations is processed, ordered and coded in a way that makes it understandable to us.
Programming: This relates to our skills at organising the communication and neurological systems in order to help us to achieve our aims, objectives, goals and ambitions.
NLP is interactive and solution-focussed. It is an holistic approach to the mind, which in turn affects the overall wellbeing of the individual. We look at how you experience your feelings and work more with how you think rather than what you think.
